How to get from Vágar Airport to Tórshavn

The answer
Take scheduled bus 300 from outside the terminal building. It runs east through Miðvágur, Sandavágur and the Kollafjørður tunnel to the Tórshavn bus and ferry terminal, which is in the middle of town next to the harbour.
You can buy a ticket or a Tourist Travel Card on board, so nothing needs arranging in advance. Departures are spread across the day rather than frequent — check the day column for your arrival date against the operator's timetable.

Paying for the journey
- Single fares are zone-based and published by the operator on its own fare pages.
- A Tourist Travel Card is 500 DKK for four days or 700 DKK for seven, with children at half price. It is sold at the airport information centre and on board route 300 itself.
- Once you are in Tórshavn, the municipal town buses are free, so you do not need a ticket for the last stretch to your accommodation.

Going back
Tórshavn to the airport for your flight home
The same route 300 runs in reverse from the Tórshavn terminal. Because departures are spread through the day rather than frequent, work backwards from your check-in time and take the departure before the one that looks like it fits — a single missed bus here can be a missed flight, and there is no second airport.
If you are coming from anywhere other than Tórshavn on the day you fly, treat that as two connections rather than one and check both.
If the bus does not fit
The honest alternatives
Late arrivals and very early departures can fall outside the scheduled service. Taxis and pre-booked private transfers operate from the airport, and a rental car collected at the terminal is the usual choice for visitors planning to reach places the network does not serve. None of these is cheaper than the bus; they are what you use when the timetable genuinely does not work.
