Tórshavn's terminal (Farstøðin) is the start of the regional network; the town's own buses are free and meet at Steinatún.
From Vágar Airport: Take bus 300 from the terminal building. It is the scheduled public connection between the airport and the Tórshavn bus and ferry terminal.

Getting back from Tórshavn
Tórshavn is the one place where the return leg is easy: it is where the network converges, and the town buses that get you the last stretch to your accommodation are free. The harder direction is outward — check the last departure back to Tórshavn before you commit to any day trip.

What the operator publishes
- The bus and ferry terminal (Farstøðin) at Eystara Bryggja is SSL's hub and the terminus for routes 100, 300, 350, 400, 401 and 650.
- The town buses run by Tórshavnar kommuna are free of charge for residents and visitors alike, and have been since 2019.
- Seven town routes serve the municipality; all of them meet at Steinatún square, the town-bus hub and a separate stop from the Farstøðin terminal, and most also stop at Á Hálsi. Town route 6 also calls at Farstøðin.
- Tourist Travel Cards are sold at the ferry terminal here.

Tórshavn in brief
Tórshavn is the hub of the whole network. The bus and ferry terminal at Eystara Bryggja is where the regional buses start and where the Nólsoy and Suðuroy ferries berth. The free town buses have their own hub, Steinatún square, which is a different place from the terminal.

The turf-roofed peninsula holding the government buildings is a few minutes' walk from the terminal, so it fits into a gap between buses.

The Nólsoy ferry berth is in the middle of town, which makes a half-day island trip possible with no planning beyond checking the sailing times.

Free town buses
If your accommodation is uphill from the centre, the free town buses are a genuine convenience rather than a curiosity. All routes meet at Steinatún.
A bit of history
Tinganes is the low rocky finger of land that splits Tórshavn's harbour in two, and Visit Faroe Islands dates the first meetings there to around the year 900, when the Viking parliament gathered every summer to settle matters of national importance. It is among the oldest parliamentary sites anywhere.
What makes it strange to stand on is that it never became a monument. The turf-roofed, tar-black timber buildings on the point are not a museum: they are the working offices of the Faroese home-rule government. People carry laundry past the seat of power.
It is a few minutes on foot from the bus and ferry terminal, which makes it the one sight on this site you can fit into a gap between departures without planning anything.
