The short version

Almost everything radiates from the bus and ferry terminal in Tórshavn. Route 300 goes west to Vágar Airport and Sørvágur, route 400 goes north to Klaksvík, route 100 goes to Vestmanna, and route 650 goes south to Sandoy through the subsea tunnel. The branches to villages connect to those trunk routes rather than to each other.

Separately, the town buses inside Tórshavn are run by the municipality and are free of charge for residents and visitors alike.

These are the routes that matter to a visitor. The operator publishes more, mostly local services within a single district, and the route overview below links to all of them.

Where this comes from

Route numbers and names are reproduced from the operator's own route overview. Departure times are not copied here at all — each route page links straight to its own official timetable instead.
