Check first

What can stop this crossing working

  • The Tourist Travel Card explicitly does not cover route 36 to Mykines. You pay for this crossing separately.
  • This is an exposed Atlantic crossing on a small vessel. Treat a same-day return as conditional on the weather, not as a fixed plan, and do not book a flight home for the evening of a Mykines day.
  • Outside the published season windows above there is no scheduled sailing at all.

Seasons

When it sails

Published season windows, as the operator states them. Outside these windows there is no scheduled sailing.

  • 1 April – 30 April 2026
  • 1 May – 31 August 2026 (summer timetable)
  • 1 September – 8 October 2026
  • 8 October – 20 October 2026

Boarding

Turning up and getting on

  • SSL runs an online booking system for this route; book rather than arrive hopeful.
  • SSL warns that boarding and disembarking require passengers to make a small step or jump between the vessel and the quay, because the vessel may still be moving alongside.

For visitors

Getting to and from the berth

  • Sørvágur is the end of bus route 300 from Tórshavn and Vágar Airport, which makes Mykines reachable without a car.
  • Route 350 notes one trip arriving at or departing from Bakki Sørvágur, next to the Mykines ferry.
  • Route 300 at Sørvágur

The all-week bus from Tórshavn and Vágar Airport.

  • Route 350 at Sørvágur

Weekday service; one trip uses Bakki Sørvágur beside the ferry.
