Faroe Islands bus and ferry tickets: what things cost
Last checked: 19 September 2026
The short answer
SSL sells a Tourist Travel Card at 500 DKK for four days and 700 DKK for seven days for adults, half that for children. It covers buses and ferries without a seat reservation, but it does not cover the Mykines ferry, vehicles, or pre-booked seat reservations. Tórshavn's town buses are free to everyone. Single bus fares are zone-based and published by SSL itself.

The Tourist Travel Card
These are SSL's own published prices, checked on the date shown at the foot of this page.
- 7-day adult: 700 DKK. 7-day child: 350 DKK.
- 4-day adult: 500 DKK. 4-day child: 250 DKK.
- SSL states that once you buy your first ticket on the card, it is valid for the next three or six consecutive days.
- Sold at the Ferry Terminal in Tórshavn, at the Information Centre at Vágar Airport, and on board route 300.
- It is not refundable for cash.

What the card does not cover
The exclusions matter more than the price, because two of them affect the trips visitors most want to make.
- Route 36 to Mykines is excluded outright. That crossing is paid for separately.
- It is not valid for pre-booked tickets that require a seat reservation.
- It does not cover vehicle transport on the ferries.
- Special event trips are excluded, including Ovastevna on Nólsoy (route 90).

Free town buses in Tórshavn
Tórshavnar kommuna's town buses have been free of charge for both residents and visitors since 2019. They are a separate service from SSL's regional routes, so a travel card is neither needed nor used on them.

Single fares
Regional bus fares are zone-based. SSL publishes the fare tables as images on its own pricing pages, so rather than transcribing numbers that go stale, this site links you straight to them.

Booking
Seat reservations and vehicle space are arranged through SSL's own booking system. For the Mykines crossing in particular, book rather than arrive and hope.
